New external post Gay marriage wave shows major shift from the blog NewsTrust – Washington State – Most Recent Stories in the group NewsTrust Washington State 3 months, 1 week ago · View
Washington Post – By Rachel Weiner – Feb. 14 (News Report) – In California, a federal appeals court struck down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage, declaring it unconstitutional. In New Jersey, the state Senate passed a bill to legalize gay marriage, two years after a similar measure went down in defeat. And on Monday Washington became the seventh state to legalize gay marriage when Gov. Chris Gregoire (D) signed it into law. Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) is pushing for gay marriage legislation, but he’s short a few votes and says the bill needs more Republican support. NewsTrust Rating: 4.0 average – 3 Reviews » [...]

Seattle Times – By Andrew Garber – Jan. 04 (News Report) – “It’s time, it’s the right thing to do, and I will introduce a bill to do it,” Gregoire said in a statement. “Our gay and lesbian families face the same hurdles as heterosexual families — making ends meet, choosing what school to send their kids to, finding someone to grow old with, standing in front of friends and family and making a lifetime commitment,” Gregoire said. “For all couples, a state marriage license is very important. It gives them the right to enter into a marriage contract in which [...]

I bit stunned that this made the front page of KIRO’s mynorthwest.com, next to stuff about the Old Spice Man and a video of a dad dropping his daughter to catch a foul ball at a Dodgers game (not even local). http://mynorthwest.com/?nid=11&sid=491160 No information about the trial, just the fact that the infamous Barefoot Bandit [...]

I agree that using real names encourages civility, but I also think requiring real names in all circumstances leads to over sanitation. There’s a lot of valuable information out there that can’t be shared without significant risks, if not straight sacrifice on behalf of the messenger. Unfortunately you can’t measure what’s never said, so it’s [...]

The difference between anonymous responders on news site blogs and objects floating in a toilet bowl is that no one expects me to read objects floating in a toilet bowl. As an elected official, I much prefer Facebook because when people are cutting and critical, even juvenile, at least they’re willing to stand behind their [...]

eatthestate.org – By Maria Tomchick – Jan. 03 (News Analysis) – Welcome to this 15th annual selection of a few of the year’s most over-hyped and underreported local stories. With the news business, especially newspapers, undergoing a not-very-slow collapse, and hard news coverage usually the first victim of tightening budgets, there was more underreported news than ever this year. Fear not, however. America’s addiction to trivial distractions can withstand any assault from economic hardship–or from reality.
