I feel like this article highlights an important issue, potentially toxic chemicals found in our fish and wildlife that are coming from elsewhere.

I noticed that the writer is a stringer for the Associated Press, and wonder if that changes the way that this issue is covered and how it affects any sort of follow up. Because the AP functions as a news wire, once the headline goes out, the writer has to constantly find new headlines and can’t pay a second thought to keeping up on what’s already out the door.

Do you think this dynamic would be different if it came from a local writer for the Times? I’d like to know more about the states efforts to combat toxic chemicals in our environment, especially since the article says we have some of the toughest laws.
